  1. Download the AMCAS Instructional Manual and read it carefully.

  1. Write your personal statement six months in advance of when you plan to apply.

  1. Select evaluators to write your letters. Provide each of them with a copy of your activities and personal statement.  UI students select the “Individual Letters” option. (We do not have a Premedical Committee at The University of Iowa.)

  1. The Academic Advising Center recommends that you complete your AMCAS application in June or July. Most medical schools accept students on a basis of rolling admission. Therefore, it is in your best interest to apply early in the summer. After receiving secondary applications, complete and return them as swiftly as possible.

  1. Contact the Career Center in C310 of the Pomerantz Center to schedule a practice interview. Read the AAMC’s information regarding medical school interviews.
