Level I: Introduction (7 semester hours)

Semester Hours

Majors must obtain a C- in all Level 1 classes.  
Take one of these:  
JMC:1100 Introduction to Media Effects 3
JMC:1200 Introduction to Media & Culture

JMC:1500 Introduction to Social Media 3
Take both of these:  
JMC:1600 Writing Fundamentals 1
JMC:1300 Introduction to Journalism & Strategic Communication 3

 

Level 2: Foundations (15 semester hours)

Semester Hours

Majors must obtain a C- in all Level 2 classes.  
Take all three of these:  
JMC:2010 Reporting & Writing 3
JMC:2020 Multimedia Storytelling

JMC:2030 Visual Communication and Design 3
Take both of these:  
JMC:2600 Freedom of Expression 3
JMC:2700 Media Ethics & Diversity 3

 

Level 3: Application (18 semester hours)
Requirements vary. See below for tracks and requirements.
Choose one from each category:
Understanding Media (JMC:3100 through 3199)
Managing/Planning (JMC:3500 through 3599 or JMC:3720)
Choose one or more from each category, depending on track:
Writing/Storytelling (JMC:3400 through 3499)
Designing/Producing (JMC:3600 through 3699)

 

Level 4: Capstone (3 semester hours)
Choose one:
Advanced or Capstone (JMC:4100 through 4400)

 

Second Area of Concentration
Option 1: Complete a second major.
Option 2: Complete an undergraduate certificate.
Option 3: Complete an undergraduate minor.
